Great post a couple of weeks ago by Bill Gurley. Says that much of Google’s business is about protecting search. Makes me wonder if Google’s biggest threat isn’t us (and the social applications we use)? We, particularly twitter users, are becoming adept at indexing relevant links. Many people will use their social network to find information over search. Building more moats like Android and Chrome won’t change that dynamic, will it? It’ll also be interesting to see how, as movements like open data and Data 2.0 become larger, while more info and relevant search moves into apps and away from browsers, traditional search will be further affected.
